Tera Melos - Melody 3
-Melody 3-
Melody 3 is a fun instrumental track based around one catchy little guitar tapping loop in 5/4. I love how simple the guitar parts are while still sonically intriguing. They become hypnotic while Tera Melos drummer John Clardy dynamically weaves in and out of grooves and improvisation over the loop. Then in a signature Nick Reinhart (guitarist, vocalist) move, the whole track fades out under the glitches of a delay pedal gone bat shit.
This is the 3rd track on Tera Melos' 2010 untitled release, featuring eight tracks entitled "Melody (#)". While not their first record, this was my introduction to the math rock band, and its still one of my favorite math rock albums of all time.
-Tera Melos-
As you would expect of a math rock band, these guys are fuck'n weird. Their music videos are the height of absurdity, their tracks rarely adhere to one time signature or even a single time signature at once, and they are never without their life size plush friend "Hot Dog Man" on stage.
Though while many things about them defy logic, the band is truly genius when it comes to weaving together dissonance and harmony, and with their latest studio masterpiece entitled X'ed Out, they've proven that songwriting is a strong suit as well.
As mentioned before, Tera Melos makes the most absurd music videos. I couldn't write about them and not share. Check out this marvel of modern cinema:
If you like how uncomfortable that made you feel, there are videos for Sunburn and Bite that are equally itchy.
